The goal was to include as much work space and seating as the clients required, while creating as much function and storage as they desired. Two large center islands serve as prep, baking and serving stations. The lengthy peninsula allows guests comfortable seating and an intimate audience with the cook. Providing a subtle barrier to the work zone, the second island becomes an entertainment area with adjacent recessed wine bar, liquor and glassware storage. Here buffets and hors d'oeuvres are staged and served. To complete the transformation, the homeowners brought in interior designer, Beth Kittrell, who helped with the selection process and creating the spicy palette of rich tones.
